because the children get very little of the money. If you give say $20 a month, the child actually gets about $1. You are better off giving directly to a charity where you know they get the whole lot

The problem is that much of the money goes towards the administration of the organization itself. However, there are many charities run by ,what amounts to a one person show as a labour of love. In these, the main person or group funds the overheads, and give their own time free. Almost the entire money gets used. Sponsors have the option to be in direct contact with the sponsored child.

I am writing about India.

sponsoring children in another is not a bad thing. if the person offering to help you sponsor is taking a large cut of the money before it gets there – that’s not such a good thing.

Many times, the child who is sponsored is one of many in the family who need help – how far does the food go when it is meant for one person, but split amongst all? how could the child not share with the rest of the family?

if the person who sends the money thinks their donation rids them of the obligation to make the world a better place for all the rest of the children – that’s not such a good thing.

but to help a child, who is already alive and trying to survive? that is not a bad thing.

Charities are required by law to have at least 5 percent of the money they get go to the charity. So if you donate 100 bucks to Red Cross. They HAVE to use 5 bucks towards the charity and the rest can go to overhead

I wasn’t aware it was bad… The only way i can think that it is bad is under the circumstances that whatever organization you are workign through is corrupt and not sending most of your money to the child.
