Geography tells a lot about what the people of the time in history were dealing with in the course of their everyday lives. How difficult might it have been to transport goods needed due to the make-up of the land, access to living and business area. How much rainfall did they receive? How hot or cold was it and did it affect their ability to produce their own food? How much were they able to produce for the purpose of maintaining their lives? Did they have to import a lot of what they needed due to lack of resources? These factors will tell what type of people and businesses were necessary. Those that were good at providing became important to the town for that reason. They were in turn the persons likely to become leaders and the more wealthy among those in the community.

Ok. Rach. All these geography and weather, fertile, culture,

ideas also adds up to something. The future planning. History

is resulting from geography. Geography is the natural resource

map of reality. Having the blessings God gave us we would

plan within those teachings, and education is interacting with

geography. Without good land, man can be in last place.

Studying should consider those realist and truthful actions.

If you study history than geography is important to know the places where the events took place. If we would not know our geography historical events could have happened on Mars as we would be very ignorant. Even the different names of countries while studying history would not mean a thing if you don’t know where they were located

Geography is important in studying history because the location of the countries indicate the following:

– influence of neighboring countries over the policies of one

– some wars were due to certain countries eyeing the same territory

– proximity leads to either a sense of animosity or partnership between two country

– helps understand how some alliances are formed

Geography has climate and culture factors of historic significance.

Kind of like did something happen where your house is now located, on your street, on your block, in your city or across the globe? See how that matters?

Was it in a body of water, like the Bermuda Triangle, In the air or down a ravine, a gorge or in a ditch? Again, it matters.

Was it close to anywhere else significant? Across the canal or the ocean? In bordering towns or countries like US and Canada or US and Mexico. See?

North Pole, South Pole or Equator areas? Oh, the hot and cold of it all.

Yes, it matters.

Knowing the layout of an area is often helpful in explaining how and why an event happened. For example, it is easier to understand how massacre happened in Istanbul/Constantinople when one can understand that the geography of the site meant that the city was split on either side of the Bosphorus.

Numerous cultures are shaped by their surroundings. Civilization (and thus history) started because man was able to use fertile land near rivers to grow crops (Nile, tigress, Euphrates). While borders of Empires and even wars were limited by geographical features.

a great example is the roman empire and the Hellenization of the ancient world and how that helped the spread of Christianity.

It’s important to know WHERE something took place. Why bother knowing about a historic event if you don’t have a clue where it happened?
