why does decoder give high output although it uses And gates?
in case of 3 to 8 decoder , it uses eight And gate and any one output will be high for the combination of given input. but since it uses And gate how can the output be high.please explain.

well it is the function of the decoder to give a high output generated from a smaller input, since it is 3 to 8 decoder it has to have 8 AND gates to generate the output, simply 3 input lines need 8 output lines 2^3 = 8.
