Why do stores sell things for $0.99 instead of $1?

$299.99 instead of $300.

$39.99 instead of $40.

$99.99 instead of $100.

Is there something about the 9’s that make people more likely to buy it?

They believe, and probably correctly, than ‘If you look after the $ (or the £) the p (or the c) will look after themselves’. Most people take the bait.

Some stores also have a practice of reducing prices to a different figure (ending in .98 or .97) as indication to staff that the goods are in a sale. The staff may have authority, on request from the customer, to reduce the price further to clinch a sale. If the original prices were in whole $ or £, this would be far too obvious.

It is a marketing ploy. For some reason, people are more likely to buy a product if it is 99 cents instead of a $1. It’s like the managers think that the public is brain dead and don’t realize that they are spending about the same thing!

Peoples minds have been trained to want to pay the least. Even though it is only a penny it still makes our minds happy that we are only paying $39.99 instead of $40.

simple, it’s not about the 9’s…the fact that the front number is lower makes you think it’s cheaper…

for instance, $19.99 appears that you’re only paying around $10, as opposed to $20, it just seems more expensive because of the 2, when in actuality, it’s just a penny difference…it’s a marketing strategy, which works, believe it or not! unless you’re one of those who really looks at the price logically…

Actually, this is a way to make things look less cheap.Like you get something for

$0.99 instead of $1.00. Which 1 would u buy?? Obviously $0.99,which looks very cheap, dosen’t it?

human beings become conscious of ninety 9 cents to be plenty much less funds than $a million. this is a psychological element and fairly, it works. $999 greenback television seems to be plenty cheapter than a $1000 television, purely because of the fact it lacks the 4th digit. returned, thoroughly psychological. would not paintings on each and every physique.

Its a marketing ploy by shopkeepers because they know customers will buy something at these prices rather than eleven dollars. It should be outlawed because you dont get any change back.

No, it’s just that it seems cheaper this way and so more people would buy the thing.

It’s a marketing trick:D

basically its a marketing strategy,

if someone browses a shop and sees 10.99 or 11.00

well which one would you go for? Its the cheapest that hits the consumer and it catches the eye
