This is true, the Empire of Japan did drop more bombs on Darwin than they did on Pearl Harbor, The Pearl harbor attacks were better known simply for the pact that Australia’s population was tiny compared to the USA in 1941-1946 and that the Government kept the air raids on Darwin a secret as best they could, after the first bombing most of the surviving civilians fled the city in belief that Japan was about to land and invade Australia. Also the attacks on Pearl Harbor triggered the USA into entering the war, which preety much ment the allies had won from the very moment the attacks on pearl harbor began.

It was a strategically-placed naval port and airbase, and there were about 15,000 Allied soldiers in the area at the time of the Japanese attack on February 19, 1942.
