The target audience refers to the demographic that the site is geared towards.

For example, if you look at this site: (www.barney.com) I would say that the target audience are boys and girls between the ages of 4 to 7. The reason I could tell, is 1) I know that Barney is for kids 2) I looked at the nature of the content on the site, the word choice, the pictures used, the colors and I could tell it’s geared for kids.

Here’s another example: www.theknot.com

Based on the information found on this website, it’s clear that their target audience is people that are about to get married and planning a wedding. It’s a little harder to nail down a specific age group, but I would say mid 20’s to mid 30’s. Based on the colors and fonts and everything I would also say that they are geared more for women. So in summary, the target audience for this website would be: women between the ages of 24-35 who are planning a wedding.

Usually when it has to do with culture and tourism, is more about venues and events. I believe they are getting their target audience, people interested in gambling, betting, and drinking because the page is labeled, Melbourne Cup.

According to the mission statement of the site:

The Culture and Recreation Portal will enrich the lives of Australians and the wider global community by promoting online access to Australia’s culture and recreation sectors.

So I’d say australians and those outside of Australia interested in Australian culture.
