Which European nation has been America’s enemy?
Favorite Answer
One of the first “enemies” America had was Great Britain in the Revolutionary War.
Later on we had the Spanish-American War, so Spain was another enemy.
Perhaps most obvious are the hostilities between America and other nations during WWI: Germany, Austria-Hungary empire, Bulgaria, and Ottoman (contemporary Turkey).
In WWII the “enemies” were: Japan, Russia (which eventually came over to join the Allied powers, our side), Germany (once again), and Italy.
Then there was a brief period of high tensions between Soviet Union (Russia) and U.S. during the Cold War.
I would mention the current war U.S. is engaged in against terrorism, but that isn’t in Europe so it doesn’t pertain to your question.
The above mentioned are some of the most prominent “enemies” U.S. has had.
Hope this helps 🙂
Some are just plain neutral on all subjects. If push comes to shove I think the 3 that would not have our backs is Spain, France and Russia. But who really knows who will turn on who. The bottom line is, we are nations and peoples of troubled times. We are war mongers and haters some nations more than others and then those that like to inflict terrorism on the innocents.
