whats the difference between these two types of point of view?

third-person limited point of view and omniscient point of view?

it says that…

third-person limited point of view- the story is also told by an all knowing narrator who speaks in the third person, but you only know the thoughts and feelings of one character, not multiple characters.

omniscient point of view- when the story is told by an all-knowing narratior who is not a character in the story at all; you know the thoughts and actions of all the characters.

how do they use that in the story? for example, first-person point of view uses ‘I’ to tell the story…but i dont get it using these two types of point of view…please explain it to me…thank you in advance!

Third-Person Limited is not a person in the story. They are viewing it in their point-of-view, or in someone else’s point-of-view. They only know one persons feelings or thoughts.

Third-Person Omniscient is an all-knowing narrorator. It knows all the feelings and thoughts of every character.

This might help Think of the first-person point of view as something that is told by one person. BUT – one person can only record what they can see, hear, taste, feel, smell — or what they can deduce. It’s like a mystery story in a way. But life is seldom a one-track event. Other things are going on at the same time. Other people are thinking things, and in the first-person point of view, you have no idea of what other people are thinking or doing, unless that information is somehow communicated to the first person who is telling the story. It becomes very restrictive and limiting. With the Omniscient point of view, you can see what everyone is doing – all at the same time. You can hear what other people are thinking, see what they are seeing, feel what they are feeling. You can be there when they plot against the first person narrator – or against each other. To get a better idea, grab a detective novel. Any one at all. Now look at the number of times the point of view changes from the ‘I’ of the narrator, to the people around him or her, to the victim, to the actual murderer, to the others who are suspected of being the murderer — now take all that information out of the story and just read the first person stuff. It’s pretty dull, and not very exciting to read because all the stuff that the omniscient one contributes is what builds the tension. Does that help at all?

third person limited – similar to first person in a way. however, first person can only tell you the things that happen in the narrarators presence. 3rd person can tell you the insites of all people, even situations that they are not involved in, its just that they are the ones reading the story. when it comes to a part of the story they are in they do say “me” or “i”. an example of this is if you have seen the show desperate housewives.

third person omniscent – any story that is simply a story. if you tell a ghost story, you are the nararrator, and you are not involved in the story, so you are speaking in third person omniscent. winnie the pooh. the nararrator is not a person in the story. so it is third person omniscent.

i hope this helps!
