What’s an original and clever way to present my “Heroes” project for my Senior English class?

In my English class we were assigned a project about our own personal ‘heroes’. We have to come up with our own definition of a hero, and present *in an original and clever way* 15 of our own personal heroes. We have to include a picture or illustration for each hero as well as a paragraph explaining why we picked him/her. My teacher showed us some of her favorite examples from the past years, and they were all very original: one was a filmstrip, with each ‘frame’ representing a different hero, another was a quilt, with each fabric square being used for a hero, another was a box of tissues that each had a hero on them.

I’m straining myself trying to think of something new and original for this project…no idea is too whacky…any ideas would be much appreciated!

Make a huge one month calendar. Using days 1-15 for each of the heroes and the rest of the blank days for additional pictures or footnotes.

Create a make-believe town of “Hero Land” and make 15 landmarks with a map and index.

A football field starting at the 14 yard line and one hero on each yard line until you get to the biggest hero as the Touchdown at the end zone.

A racetrack with 15 cars on the track with your biggest hero crossing the finish line. (Sorry it’s NASCAR and football season and that’s all I’m thinking right now…..not exactly by choice.)

Or you can make a huge tv out of cardboard or something and a remote and you “change the channel” each screen is a different hero.

If this is a group project you can do like a Deal or No Deal thing with the suitcases.

Oh one more thing, baseball trading cards.

Ok this is all I have for now, hope that helps. Good luck!

Well, I have an idea if you have a reasonably powerful PC or Mac?

How about making a “Ken Burns” style documentary (i.e. Civil War, or the new World War documentaries on PBS). You could intersperse photos, with music background and possibly a narrative. If some of your “Heros” are local individuals, you could do interviews of them and/or people who knew them. If not, get interviews of people who “also” see them as “Heros”.

There are many programs for Windows and Mac that would allow you to do this with a scanner and a camcorder. You can even burn it to a DVD that could be played in any DVD player… at school or home!

Good Luck!

This may not work for you, but I hope it helps….

You can get a potted flower plant or small tree, with each flower or branch being a hero. You can say something like:

For the Flower: All of my heros have grown to become a part of me and a part of who I hope to be one day.

For the Tree: Like the tree a person is made of many branches. You take something special and learned away from each hero and those you look up to. As the branches of a tree, I hope my heros’ goodness will be within me.

Or something…sorry if you don’t like it

One idea is to present them while wearing a cape with the pictures velcroed on the cape. It’s kinda lame though. Another is to make (or buy) a flower vase for each person and put their face and description on the vase. Then put a real (or fake) flower in the vase that you think best represents that person in the vase.

How about creating your own “Hero comic book” draw or clip pictures of all your heroes from magazines or newspapers. Collect them together, arrange them, and paste them into a comic book template. Get it bound to look authentic and title it. You could even make up your own short story line. Make it look like a published comic book and title it something like “Heroes Unite!” or something comic book-like.
