“Science (from the Latin scientia, ‘knowledge’), in the broadest sense, refers to any systematic knowledge or practice. In a more restricted sense, science refers to a system of acquiring knowledge based on the scientific method, as well as to the organized body of knowledge gained through such research.”

“Science is any system of knowledge that is concerned with the physical world and its phenomena and that entails unbiased observations and systematic experimentation. In general, a science involves a pursuit of knowledge covering general truths or the operations of fundamental laws.

Science is treated in a number of articles. For the history of Western and Eastern science, see science, history of. For the conceptualization of science and its interrelationships with culture, see science, philosophy of. For the basic aspects of the scientific approach, see physical science, principles of. For the historical development of the different sciences and their scope, component disciplines, methods, and principal problems”

I believe science is one of the most fundamental areas of knowledge of humanity …. those fundamentals being

* understanding of self (something base animals might not have)

* communication skills such as mastery of language

* mathematics

* science

* arts such as theatre, paintings, great literature

* spirituality such as religion

* there may be others

My name = Alister William Macintyre

My Definition of science:

An organized method of figuring out the world around us & how it works, such as geogra[hy, geology, biology, chemistry, astronomy

A wise philosopher once said that God is a great artist who has created a wonderful universe for us to live in. We can get closer to God by studying his works, and for some complex systems, they can be easier to “grok” if we apply some information from religous teachings as a framework for our studies.

An important ingredient is “the scientific method.”

This is where humanity comes up with some kind of theory to explain apparent scientific facts, then figures out experiments to prove or disprove those facts, experimenting in areas other than the initial theory … such as “What is the nature of light? waves, rays, or pulses”

Invariably each cycle of theory & experiment leads to some anomalies in the information, where the theory is not an exact match with the facts, so we study those anomalies, trying to come up with a better theory.

Science is the concerted human effort to understand, or to understand better, the history of the natural world and how the natural world works, with observable physical evidence as the basis of that understanding1. It is done through observation of natural phenomena, and/or through experimentation that tries to simulate natural processes under controlled conditions
