If you want the mean of 4, 2, 8, 7 and 9, just get the average by:

4+2+8+7+9=30 divided by 5 (the amount of numbers) is 6.

So, 6 is your mean.

The MEAN is MEAN because it makes you do alot ofsteps.So if I had the problem: 1 + 2 + 3 and I had to find the mean, i would add it which would be 6 then divide it by how many numbers there were, which was three (1,2,3).

so it would be: 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 / 3 =2

Ex:

1,2,4,6,7, these are the numbers given you add them all.

20, that is the answer. You take 20 and divide by 5 because that is the amount of numbers given. Then you get 4 for the answer.
