An algebraic vector is a vector represented in terms of components relative to co-ordinate axes, often written in terms of three mutually perpendicular unit vectors i, j, k, for example:

5i + 3j – 2k.

A geometric vector is a vector represented in terms of magnitude and direction, for example:

magnitude 6 in a direction N 24deg. W.
