well…what is history? there is no “right” answer to this question…history is our past—as individuals, a nation, etc. our history molds our futures. we learn from our past—whether its personal growth or coming together after a stockmarket crash…its an experience.

we have to note things of importance that happen in our lives so that our children-or future generations-dont make the same mistakes.

if you think about past wars, time eras, etc—history plays an important role in out future…

Start by finding a dictionary definition of “history.” Think about how history can be both oral and written. Think about what method of passing along history is the most reliable.

What’s the root word in “history.” It’s “story.” History is a story of what?

What kinds of history are there? Global, regional, by country, by area of a country, or even a personal history. Can a personal history (or biography) tell us anything about the broader history of a time?

I hope this gives you some things to think about.

History is the study of the past. I will apologize before I make my next statement as I do not remember the originator. “Those that do not rememeber the past are doomed to repeat it.” As we study our past, be it personal or that of humanity, we begin to see how we could have made decisions that would have made our lives different. For example, a battered spouse who finally asks for help and leaves her abuser. A thirty-year-old who has only one or two drinks at a party vice having 10, 15 or more like he/she did in college(and getting temporarily decorated or puking on themselves for several hours.)

This applies to our world and US history as well. The majority of your paper may be citing examples in World and US (since our country is part of the world) where History has been forgotten or remembered and how that affected the decisions made the next time around. Good Luck!!! jt

You can take a few different approached to this. History can be interpreted to mean a few different things. It can refer to an event (or series of events) OR history can be the record of events. It’s clear that history is the thing which is recorded, but we read history by the record. Therefore, the event is now interpreted from the writings, which may or may not be completely accurate. In short, history is the recording of human life and earthly phenomena that happen.

It is important because our life and events change, just as they changed before us. Think of our experiences in life and how much we learn and grow from them. Our culture, and its being, operate in much the same way, learning from and building of that which came before us.

History is what makes us who we are today. It is also what civilizations use to help solve current problems in our society. Too bad we don’t pay enuff attention to our ancestors……it is where the axiom “we learn from our mistakes” was derived.
