First, multiply the whole thing out using FOIL.

This is what it will look like.

6a-8b-24/3a-9/3b

When you break the fractions down into lowest terms, this is what it will look like:

6a – 8b – 8a [It is eight because 24 divided by 3] – 3b [It is three because 9 divided by 3]

Without the brackets this is

6a – 8b – 8a – 3b

Then, just subtract 6a and 8a and subtract -8b with 3b

That will be:

-2a-11b

That is your answer!

Hope I helped 🙂

Note: Be careful of Positive and Negative signs!!! They can mess you up a lot! Watch out for careless mistakes =(

The easiest way is to clear the fraction first.

Take the denominator, (3) to the top, cancel the 3’s in the fraction and then multiply through by 3 on the left side.

(3)(2)(3a – 4b) -1 (24a + 9b)

(6)(3a – 4b) -1 (24a + 9b)

18a – 24b -24a – 9b

-6a – 33b ANSWER

What are you trying to do? Are you solving for a or b or both, or what?
