In Japan, industry is the main name of the game. They’re known world-wide for production of good automobiles, steel, ships, machine tools and electronic equipment. Even the few farmers work part-time in industry. Japan imports much of its food. It has a high level of education and comforts in the home.

The Philippines rely on agriculture as the backbone of their economy. They grow coconuts and pineapples as well as other crops in the moderate tropical climate. They have many minerals but don’t “farm” them. 40% of the people are at poverty level. An attempt to industrialize the nation by the government was undermined by corruption and recession.
