Let’s start with perfect squares.

A number is a perfect square if its square root is a rational number.

For instance, 64 is a perfect square because sqrt(64) = 8

Do you know why sqrt(64) = 8?

It’s because 8*8 = 64

0, 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, and 100 are all perfect squares. There are an infinite number of perfect squares.

9/4 is also a perfect square because (3/2)(3/2) = 9/4

2 is not a perfect square because its square root is irrational.
