Was the Great Wall of China built before or after the Han dynasty?

Yu F is right. It was built before and by the first emperor of China. Its main purpose initially, was to defend the northern borders of China, which was constantly being invaded by the Mongolians, Manchus and other minority groups in China which were at the outskirts of China.
The Great Wall of China is named as one of the 7 wonders of the world, and its walls can be seen as a thin thread of line on a satellite photograph.

Actually it was built in Qin Dynasty, by the very First Emperor in Chinese history. He connected several walls at the northern China to built this Great Wall to defend enemy.
