using the TI-84, how do u solve an inequality?

Your best bet is to try to perform this by hand. Inequalities can be a bit difficult to do in a calculator. Therefore, I can help you solve it by hand:

factor the equation using the FOIL method.

(x-3) (x+2) > 0

This works because using the distributive property of multiplication this can be multiplied back out to = x^2-x-6

Next, set each individual set = to zero and solve for x:

(x-3) = 0 (x+2) = 0

+3 +3 -2 -2

__________________________

x=3 OR x= -2

Well since we know that the equation is greater than 0 in the original equation we can plug in the numbers to make sure they work.

After plugging in the numbers back in to your equation you will find that the only one that is true is 3 and therefore the answer to the inequality is x=3

i think u just do it as if it is an equal sign and then change to > or < when u get the solution. u can find out whether you should put > or < by plugging in values into the original equation
