i’m not sure what the five step method is but the correct – and smiple- way to solve the problem is set up the equation:

(1/3)x + 5 = (1/2)x

then multiply by the least common multiple to clear the fraction which would be 6

2x + 30 = 3x

then move the 2x over and you have:

30 = x

so 30 is the final answer

well, if 1/3 is 5 less than 1/2, it means that 5 is half of a third of the number, because there are 3/3 in 1 and 1.5/3 in 1/2. I think the way you are supposed to do it is by going 3×2=6 and then 5×6=30. so your answer is 30.
