True beyond a reasonable doubt.?

What are the differences between:

–Possibly True

–True beyond a reasonable doubt and

–Probably true/ Probably false.

I have to use those to distinguish between certain arguments.

Possibly true means that there is a possibility that it could be true, but it could also be false. For example, did I go to school today? Possibly true, but you don’t even know if I’m a student.

Probably true is somewhere between possibly true and true beyond a reasonable doubt – it is more likely than not that it is true. If I have class every Thursday, it is probably true that I went to class today (unless I was sick).

True beyond a reasonable doubt means you can assume it is true and it would be illogical to assume not. If you talked to someone who said he sat next to me in class today, then it is true beyond a reasonable doubt that I was at school today.

“possibly true” is just it could be a or b each one having an equally likely chance.

“probably true” is could be a or b where a or b is slightly more likely than the other.

Really “true beyond a reasonable doubt” is a legal test and not really related to the other two except that it is more strict than the other two.

Following my example above with a or b in this case for a to be “true beyond a reasonable doubt” the other situation b must be unreasonable (given that there are only 2 situations). Whats reasonable for one person may or may not be reasonable for another. You must decide for yourself what is reasonable and what is not.

I would approach this from a percentage aspect. I would think that possibly true would have a more than 60% chance of being true. True beyond a reasonable doubt, greater than 90%, while probably true/probably false, less than 60%, but greater than 40%.

I think that:

-True beyond a reasonable doubt means that it can be proved using multiple sources or else it is so obvious that it is true. Example, the sky is blue. True beyond a resonable doubt. Its not red, yellow, etc. Its blue.

-Possibly true means that it is most likely true but you can’t really prove it.

Probably true/probably false. It could be either. It is possible that it could happen but also possible that it couldn’t happen.

That is just my opinion/thoughts. Good luck!
