cross cut saw is for cutting wood across the grain. Like cutting a board into.
A rip saw is for sawing with (or down) the grain. Like ripping a 2 x4 down the center to get two 2 x2 ‘s.
A rubber mallet is use when you need to give something a light tap without leaving any marks. Like tapping a stuck drawer to free it up, tapping a stuck window, things like that.
