First, READ THE BOOK – not the cliff’s notes version. the movie -while truly a classic – extremely good – pales in comparison to the book.

READ THE BOOK – and then you can do your assignment. There’s no getting around it. It’s your responsibility to read the book.

It’s been years since I’ve read this book – hard to get started – but once inside it – you can’t put it down.

Look for with Scout’s being accosted in the woods, the black man being accused of raping a white woman and the mad dog being shot.

The pace is painfully slow – because it’s a hot summer in the deep south – where everything moves painfully slow. You can almost smell the trees and hear the crickets chirp.

Try discussing how one man can stand up to the crowd. The lawyer defended a black man – in the deep south – before 1960 – and someone (i believe the same man) stood up to the mad dog (by shooting it) where the rest of the community was willing to let things stay the same – and not confront major issues at hand.

You’ll have to find repititions throughout the book..not really an easy way around that one. If you didn’t read the book, try watching the movie. It is extremely close.
