To do well in anything, you need skills simply because everything in which you want to do well requires you to have the ability “to perform a task well or better than average.” For example, if I want to be able to do algebra well, I have to first master the basic skills of mathematics, which includes, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. If I didn’t have those skills, then how can I expect to do algebra well, especially when algebra incorporates much of those skills?

To do well in anything, you also have to have the will to do it. Having no will to do something means that you have no internal motivation or desire to do it, which makes doing anything really hard to bare; almost like suffering. For example, if I didn’t have the will to learn algebra, algebra would seem very overbearing. I’d have very little desire to learn it and do it well, so ultimately my thoughts and emotions end up getting in my way of doing well in algebra because I simply didn’t have the will to do it in the first place.
