Ok. Well, I would think that the first thing you would analyze is lnot the painting itself, but the time period it was painted in. When you have a grasp on the thinking and morals of the time period, you can better analyze the actual painting. Also, if you can, research the artist. Then look at the way the subjects are posed or what action they are engaged in. This will tell you if the artist was trying to rebel against society or convey to the viewer a certain theme. Also, look at the color scheme. Like images, colors can sometimes reveal meaning.(White=purity) I have seen this painting, and color or a connection to the painter’s life might be your best bet.

you can talk about the artist’s use of color, shape, what medium he or she used, if it’s an oil painting or watercolor, what time period it was created, how the artist used techniques that are relative to the time period in which it was created. This sounds like fun! I worked all morning on such an assignment, where I had to discuss early Roman wall paintings. Only to find out that they took me out of this class and put me in a Math class after transferring some credits from my transcript…I was so looking forward to the art class. Oh well.
