The point representing x on a real line is at least 6 units from the point representing 3.?

I have to (a) Write an absolute value inequality to represent the statement. and (b) Solve the ineqality from part (a). It’s pretty tricky!

a) |x-3| >= 6

b) x-3 >= 6 or x-3 <= -6 x >= 9 or x <= -3

I’ll use brackets for abs val bars [ ]:

a) [ x -3 ] > 6

b) solving, greater than absolute values (think great OR):

x – 3 > 6 OR x – 3 < -6 Now add 3 everywhere x > 9 or x < -3 That's it.
