The expression below was simplified in two different ways. Which one is incorrect? Explain the error.?

-2x(4x – y)

=(-2x X 4x) + 2x (- y)

= -8x – 2xy

or

-2x(4x – y)

= (-2x X 4x) + (-2x X-y)

= -8x + 2xy

the first one because on the second line, the second 2x should be -2x

The simplification would be:

-8x^2+2xy

Therefore they are both wrong because neither has to the power of 2 and the first one is wrong because the negative sign was not carried with the 2x.
