Symbolism in the Heart of Darkness?PLEASE NEED HELP?

What is the symbolism of Marlow’s shoes are first filled with blood and thrown overboard ; now old shoes are given to the Russian. Please help me I can’t think of anything at all!! I’ve have read the book over and over…Please help a kid out!

I really want to help you with this question, but I am not just going to give you the answers, because with symbolism there is some room for you to make your own decisions. But I will tell you how you can figure this out.

Ask yourself: How does the blood get in Marlow’s shoes? Is he responsible? What actions does Marlow take throughout the story that might make him a positive or negative character? How does he change after this event?

In other words think about Marlow’s character–the answer to your question has to do with Conrad’s development of Marlow’s character.
