First you start by moving around one of the equations so that you get a y or an x on one side of the equation.
I will work with x:
x +2y = -6 ======> x = -6 – 2y ====> x = -6 + -2y
now that you have an x equivalent you can substitute it into the other equation.
3x + 2y = 6 ======> 3( -6 + -2y) + 2y = 6
-18 + -6y + 2y = 6 =====> -4y = 24 ====> y= -6
now that you have y you can use this to substitute it into both equations or just one to make things faster.
3x + 2y = 6 ====> 3x + 2(-6) = 6
3x + -12 = 6 Solve for x and you get x= +6
Finally x=+6 and y=-6
I hope this helps.
