You move the 2x to the other side by subtracting it from both sides:

6x = 2x – 1

6x – 2x = 2x – 1 – 2x

4x = -1 (because 2x – 2x = 0)

x = -1/4

Well. i learned this recently and it isn’t too hard once you get the hang of it. Here’s is what you do.

6x=2x -1

First, since 2x is on the right, and it is a positive, you want to take the 2x away from the right side.

6x-2x=2x-2x-1

This is what the problem would look like. From here, there would be no x on the right side, only a -1. Here is what the problem would look like now.

4x=-1

Since on the left side you subtracted 2x from 6x (6x-4x) , that would be 4x. So now, 4x=-1. Here is what you do next.

4x/4=-1/4

Now, you would divide 4x by 4 and -1 by 4. your problem would now equal this.

x=-.25

That is your answer.

6x=2x-1

What you do to the x’s is that you take one, in this one we will use 2x and you want it, the x, to be on one side

so you will have

1. 6x=2x-1

2. subract 2x from both sides

3. 4x= – 1

then you proceed to divide -1 by 4 and that is what x equals

A lot of info above. You basically break the equation down so “X” is on one side. The ‘light’ will come on you will get it.

Check your local library for more math help books. Good luck.

6x=2x – 1

you need to get the x’s together, so you subtract 2x so they are both together, on one side of the equal sign

6x-2x=2x-2x-1

the ones on the right of the equal sing cancel

4x=-1

now try to isolate the variable so it’s alone

you need to divide it

x=-1/4

6x=2x-1

Subtract 2x from each side

6x-2x=2x-2x-1

simplify

4x=1

divide each side by four

x=1/4
