Some math homework– need help please?
I have a math question I am unsure of,
As a soft ball is being caught by a player, its speed goes from 32.5 m/s to 0 m/s in about 0.0050 sec. The mass of the ball equals 0.150 kg.
What is the acceleration of the ball, & what is the force in newtons (n=m*a)
thanks for your help– bless u

Favorite Answer
F= m *a = 975 N
F= m *a = 975 N
Acceleration = ——————- ——————
………………. …………………… Time
………………….. 0 m/s – 32.5 m/s
So… … ………. ——————–
………………………. 0.005 s
————————————————-
Acceleration = – 6500 m/s^2 (metres per square second)
————————————————-
Force (N) = Mass x Acceleration…
So….. 0.15 kg x -6500 m/s^2
Force = – 975 kg-m/s^2 (kilogram-metres per square second)
…. ….. …. .. .. 975 kg-m/s^2
Force can’t be negative…
(kg-m/s^2 = Newton)
——————————
Force = 975N

Hope this helps!
