with these types of problems, the goal is to get the term “s” by itself

D = (c-s)/n

First multiply both sides by n

Dn = c -s

Now subtract c from both sides

Dn – c = -s

now multiply through by -1

-Dn +c = s

Hope that the explanation helps

The idea is to get s by itself.

D = c – s/n

D-c = -s/n (subtract c from both sides)

(D-c)n = -s (multiply both sides by n)

n(D-c) = -s (rearrange factors on the left–just a preference)

-n(D-c) = s (mulitply or divide both sides by -1)

Final answer: s = -n(D-c)

By the way, I am assuming that only s is being divided by n in the original equation. If you mean that (c-s) is being divided by n, then your answer would be different. If that is the case, try to use the steps that I showed above and solve it similarly.

I would go one step farther and say that s=n(c-d).

I am not a fan of avoidable negative coefficients.

It’s the same answer, just in a form I like better.
