Put it into standard form:

2x^2 + 3x + 1 = 0

Now you can factor it or plug it into the Quadratic Formula. The QF always works. Factoring it yields

(2x + 1)(x + 1) = 0

So either

2x + 1 = 0 or x + 1 = 0

x = -1/2 or -1

And Bob’s your uncle.

2x^2=-3x-1

2x^2+3x+1=0

(2x+1)(x+1)=0

2x+1=0 x+1=0

2x=-1 x=-1

x=-1/2

Now check the x and if the statement is true those are your two possible answers.

There is also a Logrithm way to answer this. I think the above way is easiest.
