So I need some help getting started on my essay?
My essay is for my American Gov’t class. The assignment is to select two presidents from history and write a brief paper discussing the impact they had on the office of the President. Please no comments on who I have chosen. I chose Clinton and Bush (I decided they would be the easiest to write about). What would be a good way to start out the essay. I seem to have a writers block… any help would be great. Thank you in advance

That is a huge topic (I mean- people write books on this stuff) so it would be easier if you narrowed down the topic, such as looking at a particular issue and compare how both president’s handled the issue, and how their actions regarding this issue affected the office of the President.
Possible ideas:
Environmental policy
International issues
White House scandals (this would be a fun one)
Supreme Court appointments
Another way you could approach this is by looking at the approval ratings of Clinton and Bush 7 years into their presidencies, and research the actions that caused those ratings to go up or down.

I think most of people over here have given you good ideas. The writers block happens when the emotions are overloaded. Get your feet on the ground to realize you won’t be right or wrong since it’s politicians you’ll be writing about. An essay only has three parts: the introduction, the development, and the conclusion. It’s an easy going! But remember: about presidents, you’ll never be right or wrong, don’t be afraid of it, because you’ll be right and wrong anyway before others who like and/or dislike those two opposed presidents.

You could start off generally about how the office of president is shaped by not the institution of democracy but by the character and actions of the man who occupies the oval office and by his interpretation of government and of the position of president. Start off broad like that then zero in on Bush and Clinton and how Clinton’s charisma and Bush’s legacy shaped their positions….. That’s all I can think of! Hope this helped a little! Seriously, since they both are liars you might discuss the impact of their lies on the population. Do people really trust presidents who are caught in lies? Why do they get re-elected, even after they are caught in lies? What were their lies?
