Slope-intercept method. HELP!?

I seriously have no idea on how to do the slope intercept method in school. I have a quiz on Thursday on it and if i don’t know it then i will surely get a zero. If any of you are kind enough, could you explain to me please how to do it very, very clearly and with examples.

Slope intercept is y=mx+b where m is the slope, and b is the y-intercept. Start by plotting your b (y-int.) then move acording to the slope (rise over run) so if your b is 2 put a point on the 2 on the y-axis and go by your slope (m) so if the slope is 1/2 go up one from the 2, then over 2 from there. Draw your line through the 2 point and your done… remember to use a strait edge for better results.

Slope-intercept form is y=mx+b. To find the m, you would have to do y sub 2-y sub 1 over x sub 2-x sub 1.

With the ordered pairs (5,2) (6,4), 4 is y sub 2, 2 is y sub 1, 6 is x sub 2, 5 is x sub 1. So you would do 4-2 over 6-5 to find the m. So your m would equal 2 over 1, which would equal 2. You now have your m. To find the b, you substitute one of the ordered pairs (it doesn’t matter which one) into the equation. I’ll do the first one:

2=2(5)+b

2=10+b

subtract 10 from both sides to get b by itself

-8=b

so your slope-intercept equation would be:

y=2x-8

Good luck!

y=4x+7

The number before the x is always the slope.

The number after the + is always the y intercept.

(4 is the same as 4/1 and its go up the top number/go over the bottom number)

so you put the first point at 7 on the y axis, then go up 4 and over 1 space and put the point there. Draw a line between the 2 points and that is the line.
