Well, first you’ve got to have the basic stuff:

– Pencils & Pens

– Erasers & White-out

– Binders to keep your things organised

– Pencil case

– A few duotangs for projects and write-ups

– Lined paper for notes

Then you should proably get:

– Tracing paper for lab diagrams

– Printer paper for formal labs

– English dictionary

– English/Spanish dictionary (or electronic translator which you could find at any office supply store)

– Scientific calculator

– Geometry set (to help with drawing of lab diagrams)

You should get a list from your classes telling you what you are going to need when you get there. Remember when you were going to grade school, and you got a list either in the mail, or when school started?? Well, in high school since everyone’s classes are different, most of the teachers will give out individual lists of the requirements of what you need for class. Here’s a partial list to start you out:

Lots of Ruled Notebooks (Single Subject)

Filler Paper

1 1/2 inch Binders of Different Colors

Folders

Book Covers

A Scientific Calculator

Pencils and Pens (Blue or Black Ink)

Highlighters

Cheap Spanish to English Dictionary

Cheap Thesaurus (For Home)

Cheap Dictionary (For Home)

A few REALLY simple, but easy tips to help you out, and keep you organized:

Try to match your notebooks, binders, and folders by color to your subject. For instance, for Algebra, use a green folder, with a green binder, and green notebook. That way in a hurry, you will always grab the right ones. I used to get highlighters that matched also so that when I was leafing through handouts I could easily spot which ones were for what class. I used the same colors all throughout high school, and it made my life 100 times simpler.

Make sure you ask your teacher which scientific calculator to get. Some classes have a recommended calculator that has all the functions on it you will need for your class. Sometimes you can get one that you can also use for next year as well.

Don’t get a big backpack. Most of the time, you can stop between classes at your locker and pick up your books. Carry around only what you need, and not everything, because you’ll be really uncomfortable, and you’ll also be spotted as a Freshman from a mile away. Seniors don’t walk around with big, overstuffed Jansport backpacks.

Good luck this year!

1.) Would it be easier to get a 5 subject notebook for 5 subjects, or 5 single subject notebooks? 5 single subject ones. 2.) Folders or binders for classes? BINDERS! The three ring kinds. Keeps you more organized. 2 inch ones for core classes. I couldn’t imagine using folders.. 3.) Or should I just wait until the first day to buy school supplies? This might be the best idea. You’ll know exactly what you need, and everything will be on sale. Good luck! 🙂

Basically the supplies you need for high school are the same you need for middle school. I’m sure that if you need anything specfic for a class your teacher will tell you.

For me I always had a binder for each class with dividers and loose leaf paper. Pens or pencils (whichever you prefer), highlighters, colored pencils, whiteout (if you use pens mostly), Post It flags. Um… a good scientific calculator or a graphing calculator if you will be going into a higher level math class like pre-cal or calculus. It will be a good investment for the rest of high school and into college.

I like to a have a translating dictionary for foreign languages for those few words you’ll encounter that the books somehow expect you to know already.

Of course, a good backpack that will be able to last your through high school and will tolerate a higher amount of books. I wouldn’t recommend one of those side hanging backpacks (the kind of mailbag style that hang by your side). They look stylish but you will regret getting it after about 2 or 3 weeks.

I hope this helps and good luck in high school. It’s really not as bad as TV makes it look. Just have fun!

everyone has a different way of organzing themselves. our school has a system where we have 8 classes.. split into 2 days, so four classes one day, four classes the next. a lot of people find that having one binder for each day works very well. if you dont do that, you still might want to have two binders, so you’re not lugging everything around, one for the morning, and one for the afternoon. mechanical pencils are best, ballpoint pens, and lots of paper. always have everything for class, or you could get a detention. and book sox for your books. they come in all sorts of colors and dont rip like the paper ones

good luck being a freshiee. its fun.. and its not as bad as you might think :]

binders and dividers

notebooks

highlighters

pens/pencils/erasers

bookbag

filler (college ruled/wide ruled) paper

if you’re getting a binder then get hole puncher (preferably the ones you can insert into the 1in 1 1/2 in binders)

and a small good stapler…

a planner (you’ll need it to stay organized)

the only thing I brought for my first day of highschool was a notebook with paper and a pen. Each class will tell you what you’ll need on the first day because the first day is orientation.
