Reading Homework A Level?

I was away this summer and didnt get the summer homework that was set in my new school (uk). For english we have to haveread two books from this list and write a paragraph about an aspect in each book.

I only got this today, and its due tommorow. Fortunely i have read two, and enjoyed them and have downloaded an online copy of each. However i read both of them a while ago, so i dont know if i should read them both again now or just skim, or just write the paragraphs. Its my first peice in AS english and i want it to look good.the books i chose are The Great Gastby which i enjoyed cus of the descriptive writing. and 1984 which i really enjoyed but cant quite remember why =s

I’d suggest that you skim over them. All your teacher is asking for is a paragraph and not a report. He/she wants to know that you read them and aren’t making it up. So in your paragraph include specifics from the novels, not just the endings.

I have never read The Great Gatsby, but I have read (and love) 1984. I would include something about: “televisions” that watch you, the Thought Police, Big Brother, rats as a form of torture, wars possibly perpetuated by the media, and death after loyalty was attained (which is the ending). If you include aspects of the novel in your description then your teacher will know you read them.

There is also Cliff Notes if you want a quick refresher.

Two great choices–1984 is such a great read! Have you read Brave New World? This is a utopian society, but has many of the same themes. Anyway, I would read the first and last chapters of each book. This should be enough to jog your memory, so that you’ll have a few interesting analytical points for your essay.
