Radical individualism?

What does radical individualism mean? I’m doing some homework out of my law studies book and it doesn’t show the definition anywhere. I tried reading the section but got nothing out of it.

Radical individualism places the rights of the individual over those of society, rather than considering the good to society over the rights of the individual. Radical individualism is a huge consideration in the law at this point. A trend towards individual rights vs. group rights leads towards incidents like Columbine. Radical individualism is frequently discussed in terms of HIV/AIDS and mandatory reporting of test results, in right of a client to have confidentiality in terms of psychiatric records, and so forth. Tarasaoff was one of the first cases to conclude that the right of privacy can be superceded by their pronounced intent to injure someone. Here’s an excellent discusson for you:

Radical individualism is also used in the context of a woman’s right to choose to abort or carry, right to perform bedroom acts that others might consider perversion, and similar issues. You should be able to immediately see the connection between individuality, privacy, and legal clash of the public as a whole, especially as it relates to communications (including Internet).
