Each person must find their own meaning to phrases like these.

What is your definition of Honor?

Can you retain your honor through life, or does no choice available to you allow you to keep your honor?

To give you a historical context, the Revolutionary War slogan “Give me Liberty or Give me Death,” is along the same lines.

This were men that couldn’t abide living under a petty king a ocean away (at that time travel took more than a month from Boston to London). After they’re gentlemanly attempts to deal with this king were exhausted ( a requirement to their honor) they knew that they must fight and possibly die to maintain their honor.

Now that does have some relevance, to today, because the US wouldn’t exist without them, but I’m sure you can find something in today’s world that you can write passionately about.

It sounds like they mean that when you have lost your pride/honor/integrity etc the only way to restore your honor is for you to end your own life.

Where is this quote from?
