Could you explain these two small sentences in your own words?

A 9th grade student who is new to English, for example, is not expected to be able to read difficult books in English and write long and complicated essays. That new 9th grader may only be at the first or second level on the rubric (because levels 5 and 6 describe where students who are seniors and ready for college should be).

Please explain the 2nd and 3rd sentences in your own words for a better understanding and what does rubric mean in this context?

In this case, a rubric is an established order or classification used to identify academic levels for a group of students. A 9th grade student who is new to English would be on the bottom of the “scale” because they lack the experience and education (exposure) of a more advanced student.

The levels of the rubric are stereotypic or standards set for students of a particular grade or age group. In these sentences, the student in question is a novice or beginner.

Hope that helps.

A grade 9 student, who is new to english, is not expected to be able to read difficult books in English and write long and complicated essays. That person might onyl be at level… 1 or 2 . Level 5 and 6 are for skilled and experienced writers who are ready for college.

R –> 1 –> 2 –> 3 –> 4 –> 5 –> 6

This is how it works in my school:

R means that you’re failing

1 means something like 40-49

2 means 50-59

3 = 60-69

4= 70-79

5= 80-89

6= 90-100

Hope that helps!
