Please help solve! A body falling on an unknown planet of earth’s mass: A. falls at what rate?
A body falling on an unknown planet of earth’s mass:
A. falls at what rate?
B. How far did it go aftter 6 seconds (neglect friction)
Final velosity = ?
Average Velocity = ?
Favorite Answer
1.this ques works under the assumption that since the planet has the same mass as the earth, the value of g will be same(I hope u know what g is)= 9.8 m/s^2=rate at which it falls
2.so, initial speed of body = 0 m/s (as it is dropped from rest) ,t = 6s and we want to find out v(the final velocity) and S(the distance)
so applying distance equation
S= ut + 1/2gt^2
= 0 X 6 + 1/2 (9.8) (6)(6)
= 4.9 X 36
= 176.4 m
also, v^2 – u^2 =2gS
v^2 – 0^2 = 2(9.8)(176.4)
v^2 = 864.36
so v(final velocity) is approximately equal to 29.4 m/s
3)
average velocity = (u+v)/2
= (0 + 29.4)/2
= 14.7 m/s
PS I think that there is a catch in the question. You see , the value of g on that planet =
GM/R^2
also, value of g on earth = GM/R’^2
now it is given that mass of both planets are same, so the numerators become equal, but u see , there is no info about the radius of that planet. So , we cannot be absolutely sure that value of g on that planet = value of g on earth.
Hope this helps
9.8 m/s^2
velocity-58.8m/s
average-9.8m/s
