I read the story Heart of Darkness for a class and need to write a paper on this quesiton, ” Why is Kurtz unable to thrive in the wilderness when he flourished in the civilized world?” if you can help that would be great!

I think it was because of his genius combined with his desire for power. It produces an unstoppable monster that consumed him. He used force to gain power and he could not do that in the wilderness.

This is the kind of question that requires more than just a quick read of the book, it requires that you think about the story. The point of the question is for you to give YOUR thoughts about why Kurtz could not thrive in the wilderness… As long as you write a well thought out paper and you support your view with events in the plot of the book, your answer won’t be wrong. So sit down and think about why you think it happened as it did and then you’ll be able to write.
