Oral Presentation TOm. HELP!?

The min is 5 min long, and I have 4.12 sec. Not acceptable.

What are some good suggestions to pass the time, but not get myself into trouble, or have a bad scoring.

ex. on the last minute, tie your shoes…

Start off with a few sentences about what you are going to be talking about and close with a few sentences about what you just talked about. In presentations, its a good idea to tell the audience what you are going to tell them, tell them and then tell them what you told them. If that still doesn’t get you over five minutes, try giving an extra example to explain the most confusing part of your presentation. Also, try to practice your presentation so it takes closer to six minutes – usually when you’re in front of a crowd, a presentation will be 15 to 20% shorter than when you practice by yourself!

Don’t do gimmicks like tying your shoes, telling jokes, or anything like that. It will make you look bad.

ha I have an oral presentation tomorrow too! fun huh? blah.

anyway, if i were you, i would speak a LITTLE slower than usual (not TOO slow), really emphasize key words and put alot of expression into them, and then just write another sentence or two to round things out. Good luck! (and hopefully you get to use notecards or a prompt. i get to use absolutely NOTHING and i only found out about the speech YESTERDAY! talk about sucky ;(

Not that tying your shoes is a good idea, but perhaps read it slowly and give small pauses before your most important points of the speech. Or, if all else fails, add a small bit to it to be sure that it meets the criteria.

Make sure you speak slower when you get up there. Add more details to whatever the topic is. And don’t just read off of your notecards, powerpoint, etc., explain what it means and what’s significant about it (something like that…).

Are you allowed to ask the audience for questions regarding the subject of your presentation? If not, you can finish it off by saying “I’m sure you all have questions… one of the most commonly asked questuions is (make up a question)…… and the answer to it is ..(provide the answer….”

First of all, when you’re nervous you’ll talk even faster. My suggestion is you sllllooooooowwwwww down. Let someone in your house listen to you and if you are going what YOU think is slow get their opinion. You’ll be surprised.
