need help with citing a television show and a website?

I am not sure if I am supposed to underline the show titles, italicize them, or put quotation marks on them. Also i cited a website, do i need to underline, italicize, etc…

This is an excerpt from my essay. It is a compare contrast essay on the television shows: The Closer and Psych.

The Closer and Psych both have a strong following of viewers. The Closer holds the record for the most watched, ad-supported, scripted cable show at 9.1 million viewers (Access Atlanta).

If you are using MLA….

For external documentation (Works Cited page), check out one of these websites:

http://www.rcs.k12.va.us/hvhs/library/work_cited.htm

http://www.iolani.org/lsworkscited.htm#tv

For internal documentation (w/in your paper):

Website: Text text text text text (Author “Title of Page”).

TV show: Text text text text text (“Title of Show”).

So, you’d put it in quotes. But for the title of the website itself (the part that is up in the bar at the top of the internet browser), you’d underline it. Italicizing and underlining are considered the same thing, so you can use them interchangeably (for book titles, etc.). It’s up to you.

No you do not need to underline anything. Are you using APA. If yes, here would be an example. Here is an example from my APA book.

Television and Radio Program

Braithwaite, D. (1995). Murder, rape and DNA [television series episode]. In P. Aspell (Executive Producer), Nove. Boston: WGBH. Hope this helps some.

If it is from a online website:

Last name, first intial. (year). title(lower case except the first). Main resource name (all first letters capitalized). Retrieved date, from copy and paste link

In MLA you are supposed to underling the show title. The website does not need anything specific, just put it between <>.

Go to MLA documentation websites and they will have precisely the documentation you need.
