Need help on how to start a paper…?

The paper is a summary of the experiences of five different college students on 9/11/2001. We are supposed to open with an interesting and memorable opening paragraph, but nothing comes to mind. An example he gave in class NOT to use was starting “On that horrible day….” or “It was a terrible day on that september 11….”

Can you think of an interesting way to start off my paper?

start with one of the students’ emotional reaction the moment the 2nd plane hit, or one of the towers fell – how they knew their world had changed.

You can start by defining a word or emotion, maybe some particular emotion that all 5 students expressed having felt that day, or something like that. I used to do that in high school and in my college english classes and teachers always really liked that.
