First, define the first exam as having a score of x.

Then, her second exam has a score of x+10.

And her third exam has a score of (x+10)+4 = x +14.

So now you have the three values, even though you don’t know exactly what they are.

Now, you know that the average is 88, so you find out what x fulfills the criteria that the three scores added together and divided by 3 so that the end result is 88. So, you have:

(Exam 1 + Exam 2 + Exam 3) / 3 = 88

[(x) + (x + 10) + (x + 14)] / 3 = 88

Solve for x. Add the numerator up to get:

(3x + 24) / 3 = 88

Reduce the fraction to get:

x + 8 = 88

x = 80

So, the three scores are 80, 90, and 94.

You can check your work by seeing that the average of those numbers is 88.

let first exam score=x

so second=x+10

and third=x+10+4

average=(x+x+10+x+14)*1/3=88

or 3x+24=264

or 3x=240

or x=80

so other scores are 90 and 94
