xy = 48, x+y = 16, so x=16-y

(16-y)y = 48, so y squared -16y +48 =0

(y-12)(y-4)=0

y = 12 or 4

so x = 4 or 12

The two numbers are 4 and 12 because 4+12=16 and 4(12) is 48.

xy=48

x+y=16

x=16-y

(16-y) y = 48

16y -y^2 -48= 0

y^2-16y+48=0

(y-4) (y-12) = 0

y= 4, 12

yes there’s enough information.

you set up a system of equations:

x +y = 16

xy = 48

then you turn the first equation into y = 16 – x

plug that into the 2nd equation and solve for x.

once you find x, you can find y 😀
