I’ll do this by substitution.

Multiply the second equation by 2:

x + 14.4y = -4.16

Subtract 14.4y from each side:

x = -4.16 – 14.4y …(1)

Substitute this value of x in the first equation:

1.7(-4.16 – 14.4y) – 3.2y = 4

Multiply out the brackets.

-7.072 – 24.48y – 3.2y = 4

Combine the y terms:

-7.072 – 27.68y = 4

Add 7.072 to each side:

-27.68y = 11.072

Divide by -27.68:

y = -0.4

Substitute this value of y in (1) above to get x:

x = -4.16 – 14.4*(-0.4)

x = -4.16 + 5.76

x = 1.6.
