Of course it is. Just look at the mannerisms and the way people spoke back then. Compare the media, the music, the fashion, and movies.

You bet it is. In the 1950’s era you knew your neighbourhood and who to call on when help was needed. Yes racism and sexism were prolific but they were not considered cruel ways just ignorant of the truth of that behaviour. Both are front and centre today and considered low brow, not cruel. What is more troublesome is the intolerance for the individual and the uncaring way in which we treat our seniors. We seem to have a poverty running rampant in our hearts.

Yes. I was a child in the 1950s. It was safe for me to walk back and forth to school. It was safe for me to go to the store by myself. It was safe for me to be home alone by myself. In 1956, it was safe for me to fly from Paris, France to Fort Dix, New Jersey by myself, to catch a bus from Fort Dix to Grand Central Station in New York City by myself, and to take a train from Grand Central Station to Montpelier, Vermont by myself. I was 13.

Is it safe for any 13 year old girl to have that kind of freedom today? I don’t think so.
