Is it a good idea to do some jazz hands at the end of my presentation?

Me and my friend are doing a 30 minute presentation on the battle of Stalingrad at school but we are still short by 1 minute. My friends idea is to have a minutes silence for the dead at the end but i think that it would be far more worthwhile to do some jazz hands for the minute.

The jazz hands will add a touch of class at the end dont you think?

Honestly, jazz hands are great for show choir, but not so much for the battle of Stalingrad…I would suggest to add in a couple more visuals, or to research someone that actually went through it and add on a “human touch” at the end.

If you really have to, add on a moment of silence.

Uhm…no. The jazz hands at the end is reminiscent of the old days when Al Joelson used to appear in black face and perform comedy routines. His closing posture was the “Jazz hands.”

Now that you know the history, can you see how inappropriate and politically incorrect this might be? Unless you are doing a jazz dance, jazz hands are never a good close.

A more appropriate closing might be a musical montage of footage of soldiers from that period. It would be a sombre close to a sombre subject.

A minute is actually a long time to be doing jazz hands. I think it’s a great idea though. Maybe you could talk slowly, then do the jazz hands.
