irrational numbers?!?
a. the sum of two irrationals is irrational
b. the product of two irrationals is irrational
Favorite Answer
b. false…. because here’s an example where the product of two irrational numbers would be rational…. sqrt 3 x sqrt 3 = 3
(e.g. √2 + √2 = 2√2, which is still irrational)
B. False
(I’d say ‘false’ because it’s not always true. For example:
√2 * √2 = 2, or better yet:
√2 * √72 = √144 = 12, which is a rational number, and is a product of two different irrational numbers)
b. False. Take root2 times root2 you get two. Same for any prime’s root. Also, if you examine this with other irrationals. If you take 2pi, isn’t that part of a certain formula? Hmm…me thinks so matey. I’ve never seen an irrational circle, but let me know if you find one. (sorry for the humor, just for a chuckle)
b. true
True.
